First let’s talk about what cupping is, in cupping glass or plastic suction cups of varying sizes are attached to the body, a vacuum is created, the suction pulls the skin and fat away from the muscle creating a myofascial release. The suction draws stagnant blood to the surface of the skin this allows blood to flow freely by improving blood circulation through the tissues which can speed healing in areas that are congested. In order to promote healing, we need blood flow to bring nutrients and oxygen and help eliminate accumulations.
“Where There’s Flow There’s No Pain, Where There’s Pain There’s No Flow”
Cupping’s Chinese roots date back to the Jin Dynasty (265-581). Egyptian and Middle Eastern cultures also have ancient records of the practice. After this brief intro let’s answer the question if cupping right for you.
Almost everyone could benefit from cupping. By combining prophetic medicine and traditional Chinese medicine diagnosis there will be a case by case thorough assessment to determine if cupping is right for you. If you are a good candidate for cupping a treatment plan will be discussed with you.
There are many areas of the body where the cups could be placed. It is not always the area of pain or discomfort, sometimes cups are placed on the opposite side of the body (taking into count Chinese and prophetic medicine methods). There are different types of cupping. Dry Cupping and Wet Cupping ( HIJAMA). The dry cupping is where cups are placed on the skin and are left from 10 seconds up to 3 minutes per cup and that’s a suction only method. The wet cupping is where the skin is punctured with fine needles then the cups are placed over the punctures to draw the blood out, and that’s a suction and controlled medicinal bleeding method. Each method has its uses and advantages, they could be used alone or together with or without Acupuncture. After the cups are removed there’s usually skin marking where the cups were placed, they normally fade within a couple of weeks.
At Dawaa Therapeutics, we take health and safety very seriously, it is our number one priority, therefore, we only use disposable cups, one-time use cups only.
